Annual review

I had my annual review at work. I actually had very good marks on everything, so that is nice. Apparently, my boss felt that I was doing something right, as he added that he had a proposition for me. It turns out that the plan is to add another technician in Minnesota, to share my territory. After that, the proposition comes into play.

You know, I really loathe those Christmas newsletters that brag about how Dad was promoted to CEO, Mom is head of every militant soccer mom’s group, Johnny was MVP of all the teams, and little Bertha was the prom queen and smartest in the class to boot. We write a newsletter ourselves, I admit. But mostly, it gives me a chance to show off how much our son has grown, how he is such a little character, that sort of thing. I don’t spend much time talking about my working and financial life. I figure that is private enough that anyone who needs to know about it will hear about it in our day to day communications. But I digress…

Not wanting to sound like a brag letter, let me just put this out there and let the words go where they will. I was promoted to the Minnesota customer service lead. It isn’t a chief executive position, but I wasn’t aspiring to that. I assume that earning an AABA helps make me the most viable candidate for the promotion, but more important, I think, is that I am working on a BSBA degree. Still more important, I hope, and most significant is my personal feeling that I need to give enough to my job that the management feels that an investment in me is resulting in winning the golden ticket. Okay, I expect a lot of myself. I love what I do, and the working week rarely seems to be long. I love the weekends, but I don’t feel that I am living to work, but instead am working to live. That is an important distinction, isn’t it? When it comes to my working life, I love what I do for a living.

My review was very, very positive, and this is exciting for me. It gives me the opportunity to get my feet wet in a management role, albeit only covering the Minnesota service area. Eventually, I will complete my masters program, and then, well, we will see where it leads, one step at a time.
